We absolutely love Morocco, it is a cheerful, chaotic, colourful and fragrant country, it is good for the soul and at the very thought of it, it makes you want to go back.

Here you can find 7 tips, that everyone can follow, to visit Morocco:

1. Spend a night in the desert

Without any doubt it is one of the most spectacular nights you can experiences in your whole life. So far from the typical landscapes we are used to see, it leaves an indescribable emotion in the heart. The atmosphere, the amount of stars in the sky, the smell of camels …
There are two main desert areas where you can stay in Morocco: Merzouga and Mhamid El Ghizlane.

2. Discover the typical bread
Bread (agroum in Berber) is a leavened “focaccia” made from wheat and barley and is made every day, even if doing it is tiring as it takes a lot of energy and strength in the arms. Making bread is an adventure made of collaboration: it takes people to grow the wheat, to reap it, to grind it and to shape the dough. It is eaten at every meal and can therefore be considered a sacred food.

3. Enjoy the sunset from the terrace of the Maison de la Photographie
La Maison de la Photographie of Marrakech is a museum of photography that proposes exhibitions of the Moroccan world mainly. It is small, but with lots of treasures and precious photographs that help you understand the Berber world. On the top floor you can relax drinking a tea on the terrace with a panoramic view of the whole city: a silent paradise, far from the chaos of the streets.
Oh, the ticket costs only 50MAD (about 5€) and if you keep the ticket you can return for free whenever you want!

4. Stay in a riad
A riad is a form of traditional and spontaneous architecture of Morocco. It has rooms, or multi-storey structures, divided by internal gardens or courtyards, sometimes decorated with fountains.
Once it was the traditional urban dwelling of Morocco, now it is commonly used as a tourist accommodation. Staying in one of these homes is a must; especially after long days spent in the chaos of the city, entering the riad, closing the door and leaving all the noisy streets behind you in order to relax in peace, is priceless.

5. Eat the tajine with hands
Yes, in Morocco you eat with your hands and the food gets a whole different level of taste. Help yourself with bread and dip it into the typical sauce, the markà. Even at the restaurant you can choose whether to be a Westerner using a fork and a knife, or to snatch a smile of surprise and pleasure from the waiter by dirtying your fingers!

6. Get some information about the Argan oil
Argan oil has gone from a natural, tribal ingredient to one of the most prized oils in the world as cosmetics companies have woken up to its anti-ageing properties. The plant oil is produced from the kernels found inside the argan nut, which is found inside the fruit of the argan tree, endemic to Morocco.
Women’s co-operatives have sprung up throughout the argan-producing region but not all are as co-operative as they make out. The argan tree remains under threat from overuse, deforestation and even goats. Try to get some information before buying anything and always try to #shoplocal.

7. Hike the mountains
Well, coming from us it is quite obvious. Morocco is a very diverse country and its mountains are special places. You can choose to visit the Rif in the north, or the High Atlas, known for the Jbel Toubkal (4167m – the highest peak of all North Africa), but rich in parallel valleys, hidden and not touristy at all. Every time we go there the greatest wonder comes not only from the smiles and kindness which we are welcomed with from time to time, but above all by the fact that the more we move into the valleys, the more we discover that the villages are populated, coloured, alive and rich of people and a whole organised daily activity that we didn’t think we would find.
